Desh Bhagat University Mandi Gobindgarh organized an International Webinar on “Understanding Sikhism and Virtues of Care, Compassion and Kindness”. This webinar was organized to commemorate the 551st Birth Anniversary of Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji, and to acquaint listeners with the sublime principles and preachings of Sikhism that existed during 15th century with Guru Nanak. It was organised in Collaboration with Swami Vivekananda Cultural Centre High Commission of India, Colombo.
The Chief Guest of the event was Dr. Rewant Vikram Singh, Director Swami Vivekananda Cultural Centre, High Commission of India, Colombo. He deliberated in detail on the ideals of Sikhism and the teachings of Sri Guru Nanak Dev ji. Dr. Shalini Gupta, Vice Chancellor presented Welcome Address and unfolded the theme of the webinar.
Dr. Zora Singh, Chancellor Desh Bhagat University delivered Presidential address on the occasion. In his speech he highlighted how Guru Nanak Dev ji travelled the whole of the world on foot and his journey was the longest one. He discussed Guru Nanak Dev Ji’s famous teachings like Faith in One True God, Worship and Recital of his name, and the necessity of Guru in pursuing the Path to God.
Dr. Tejinder Kaur, Pro Chancellor Desh Bhagat University deliberated on life and teachings of Sri Guru Nanak Dev ji in her address. She mentioned that the followers of Guru Nanak were from all faiths and religions, and he addressed all without discrimination. The basic teachings of Sikhism have been derived from Guru Nanak Dev Ji’s Philosophies towards life and people.
Shri Daya Dissanayake, Eminent Novelist, Poet and Blogger from Sri Lanka was the Keynote speaker on the occasion. In his address he mentioned famous incidents from the life of Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji that taught humanity to serve God’s all creations, to help the suffering and needy with compassion, care and kindness.
Dr. Satish Kumar Verma, Professor Emeritus, Desh Bhagat University advised to follow the message of Swami Vivekananda and Guru Nanak dev ji in his address.
Dr. Aloysius Pieris from Sri Lanka who is a Writer and Preacher. He mentioned that all religions deteriorate with the passage of time but one must revive religious principles. He said that Baba Nanak revived the spirit of true religion with his philosophies in the whole of the world.
Professsor Dr. Rawail Singh, Former Head, Department of Punjabi, University of Delhi, highlighted all famous preaching’s of Guru Nanak Dev Ji and Sikhism that transformed the world society at large.
